Expository Text Demonstration Lesson and Coaching Assignment.docx

Context:

In this assignment we had to develop a lesson in which a reading strategy fosters comprehension with an expository text.  Various instructional approaches were considered when planning the lesson including, the physical environment, routines, classroom configuration, variety of texts, delivery of material.

Reflection:

The detailed lesson plan of teacher prompts was useful in guiding student conversations and assuring that students were making connections throughout the story.  Emphasizing the use of illustrations to create meaning was useful for those children who were not familiar with the cultural traditions of Thanksgiving.  We now take picture walks before reading expository texts for students to create meaning and make connections to the story using illustrations.
