4.2: Use a literacy curriculum and engage in instructional practices that positively impact students’ knowledge, beliefs, and engagement with the features of diversity. |
Context:
For this assignment I used a concepts of print assessment to identify a student’s letter identification and letter sound knowledge. Once I determined my student’s letter identification and letter sound strengths and weaknesses I used a literacy curriculum that best met my student’s developmentally appropriate reading needs according to the Cambell-Hill Reading Continuum.
Reflection:
Once I was able to understand my student’s interests, I was able to use her interests as a motivational tool to engage her in a letter identification and letter sound activity. By using story and movie characters that she greatly admires, I was able to hold her attention during a small group activity that involved identifying beginning sounds. This rich engagement shows that by incorporating student interests into curriculum results in impacting student knowledge and understanding in a positive way.
