Expository Text Demonstration Lesson and Coaching Assignment.docx

Context:

In this assignment we had to develop a lesson in which a reading strategy fosters comprehension with an expository text.  Various instructional approaches were considered when planning the lesson including, the physical environment, routines, classroom configuration, variety of texts, delivery of material.

Reflection:

After studying and reading Fountas and Pinnell’s Literacy Beginnings it is clear what a classroom environment needs to support language development and be more engaging for the children.  When I invite students to the carpet for a whole group lesson they are encouraged to sit in a cozy reading spot in which they know to sit in a closer spot to see and hear the book, but they are also being considerate and not blocking or sitting too close to their peers making them feel uncomfortable or squished.
