In addition to using Common Core standards, my experience at a performance based high school has inspired me to align the curriculum with what are called essential questions. Examples of essential questions include, “what are our responsibilities as human beings”, “what is power and how do people use it” and “what is identity and how does if affect our interactions”.  I feel it is imperative that students learn basic skills as well as become critical thinkers.
