Expository Text Demonstration Lesson and Coaching Assignment.docx

Context:

In this assignment we had to develop a lesson in which a reading strategy fosters comprehension with an expository text.  Various instructional approaches were considered when planning the lesson including, the physical environment, routines, classroom configuration, variety of texts, delivery of material.

Reflection:

In my lesson plan I considered the physical environment in which learning would take place optimizing the use of traditional print and other resources. After studying and reading Fountas and Pinnell’s Literacy Beginnings it is clear what a classroom environment needs to support language development and to be more engaging for the children.  For this literacy coaching assignment the Reading Center and the Carpet Area were the main focus.  The reading area should be located in a quite space in the classroom, free from distraction with a comfortable sitting area.  Books should be on display at eye level for students to look at and read.
