In today’s schools, technology affects both students and teachers in a variety of ways.  With the explosion of cell phones and text messaging, Twitter, Facebook, and other modalities, students now have access to a variety of communication tools.  They also have instant access to information that previously would have been difficult, or even impossible for them to obtain.  As an educator, it is exciting to be in the midst of such a technological revolution, but it is also daunting to think about how this technology can and/or should be used in the classroom.  With the amount of resources available to teachers and students, the possiblitites seem endless.  I think it is extremely important for educators to collaborate on ways to incorporate technology into the daily curriculum, and to educate those who remain skeptical.  Many students don't see school as being relevant, and by keeping the classroom technology-free we are only supporting their argument.  Therefore it is important that we as educators use technology as a way to teach our students a variety of skills, in ways that are not only engaging, but are also relevant to the world they live in.

Some of the ways that I plan on incorporating technology are though the use of a SmartBoard, iPad, and iPhone, as well as allowing students to post to Google Docs, and/or blogs.  I have created a blog specifically for use by my students, which can be located at:

I have also set up a separate Twitter account (@robgarnier) specifically for educational purposes, such as building a professional learning network (PLN) of peers, or creating engaging writing activities for students.
