A positive, collaborative relationship cannot exist without respect, which is why it is absolutely essential to any successful school climate. As an educator, it is my responsibility to create an environment that promotes both teaching and learning in my school. Respect is at the heart of this atmosphere, demonstrated between teachers, as well as between teachers and students, and among students and their peers. I have always followed the example of "do unto others as you would have them do unto you," and that the best way to teach respect is to show respect. It is an example that I will model every single day while interacting with my peers and my students, because when a student experiences respect, they know what it feels like and begin to understand just how important it is.
